BMW MG1 ECU Unlock — Permanent, Any Platform, Same Day
Protocol One Engineering provides a controlled, fully in-house unlock solution for Bosch MG1 ECUs fitted to late-model BMW vehicles. All procedures are developed and performed internally by our engineering team, with no external handling, no third-party processing and no offshore involvement.
The service removes the factory locking applied to BMW ECUs from 06/2020 onwards, restoring full access for aftermarket calibration.
A Permanent, Platform-Independent Unlock
-
Performed once, unlocked for life. The unlock is permanent for the life of the ECU.
-
Unaffected by OTA updates. Over-the-air software updates do not affect the unlock in any way.
-
Open to any platform. The ECU is not tied to a single tuning platform. Select any supported platform — and change platforms at any time — with no re-unlock required.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to bring the vehicle? No. In most cases, supplying the ECU alone is sufficient.
Is the unlock permanent? Yes. The unlock is performed once and is permanent. OTA updates do not affect it — once completed, it stays completed.
Can I change tuning platforms later? Yes. The unlock is platform-independent. You may move between supported platforms at any time without returning for a re-unlock.
Is this a tuning service? No. Unlocking is a preparation step that enables tuning. Calibration and platform software are separate.
What if the ECU is ever re-locked? In the unlikely event the ECU is re-locked — for example, by a dealership-level software reflash — Protocol One will restore access remotely or in-store at no charge.
